About our namesake... Judy and John Goolsby
John and Judy Goolsby are the proud namesakes of Goolsby Elementary School. After raising a family and establishing a successful real estate company in San Antonio, Texas, the Goolsby family moved to Las Vegas.
John Goolsby was name President of The Howard Hughes Corporation in 1988, and in 1990 was named Chief Executive Officer. Under his visionary leadership, The Howard Hughes Corporation developed the master-planned community of Summerlin as well as the Hughes Center, a 115 acre master-planned business center.
During Mr. Goolsby's tenure as Chief Executive Officer, The Howards Hughes Corporation was the first corporate donor to the Clark County Public Education Foundation. Many contributions and notable changes were made that affected the students in Clark County. The corporation was responsible for the technology enhancements for Clark County schools, the launching of the 1994 Stars for Children Campaign, and numerous television public awareness campaigns to benefit youth - notably, KVBC's Baby Your Baby, The More You Know and KTNV's Goalsetters. The Youth Leadership Development Grant benefited the Southwest Region by supporting school based initiatives promoting educational excellence and family involvement.
Following Mr. Goolsby's retirement from The Howard Hughes Corporation in 1998, he continued to be an active member of Summerlin, serving as a director of many companies and charitable organizations, including the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation and Nevada Power Company.
Judy Goolsby was an active member of the Assistance League of Las Vegas, serving a term as its President. During her term, she directed the planning for and led the effort that resulted in raising about $4 million dollars to build a new chapter facility that enabled the ALLV to increase all of its programs and provided even more stability to an already great organization.
In addition to her business leadership, Mrs. Goolsby has been designing and decorating the Goolsby's homes for many years. While she continued to dabble with creative endeavors, Judy's primary interest was with her ever-expanding family scattered from Chicago to Phoenix to Souther California and San Antonio.
